John de Manincor

John established AO (The Architecture Office) in 2003, he is a registered architect with particular skills in the design and delivery of complex public projects. John’s extensive project experience spans from crafted residential projects to major public buildings. Significant projects include: Artspace Visual Arts Centre, Gallery Lane Cove for Lane Cove Council, the Great Hall and Balcony Room at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and a major new facility for the State Emergency Services (SES) for Marrickville Council. John has played important roles on numerous award-winning projects including the UTS Great Hall, About Face (research compeition) Parramatta Transport Interchange and the National Institute of Dramatic Art.

John has been involved in architectural education for more than 15 years and is a Senior Lecturer in Design and Practice at The University of Queensland. He has previously taught at The University of Sydney, The University of New South Wales and UTS (The University of Technology Sydney.  John has lectured widely in Australia and internationally and been a visiting critic at Tokyo Arts University, UQ Berkeley, SJSU, RISD, The Cooper Union and City College (NY).

John is a regular contributor to architectural media in Australia and is a contributing editor for Architecture Australia. He is a past recipient of the Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship and was a Creative Director for the Australian Institute of Architects 2013 National Conference. He has designed and curated international exhibitions including Burst Open (Gallery Artisan – Brisbane, 2014) and “Over the Boundary Exhibition” (State Library of Queensland – Brisbane, 2016).
